I wanted to teach kids art outside of the school education system and across a wide age range. Taking on a management position was appealing as I enjoy the responsibility and ability to contribute to the art-K programme. So far, I have put together a Batik workshop, helped develop a watercolour programme for adults and much more!
The art-K curriculum teaches students new skills and techniques; it encourages each child to grow at their own pace. I love watching my students find their confidence in each art project as they turn their curiosity and ideas into a well planned and executed masterpiece! Being a part of this process with the children, and encouraging them as they achieve new skills, makes this an incredibly rewarding place to be!
From the moment I came across art-K I knew I had to get involved. I love being able to teach art in such a creative environment knowing that each student is getting all the support they need in developing their skills and confidence. Managing my own studio gives me independence in my work and really motivates me. Despite working individually, we support one another really well as a team and enjoy seeing one another for fortnightly meetings and regular social events.
I always assumed I would lean towards education, but I had no idea just how wonderful it would be to combine it with my love for art. Leading the club has been an incredible experience so far, not only because the students are wonderful, but also because I feel supported, appreciated, and like I’m a part of a team. Moreover, I can use and express my creativity to inspire others, all while learning the ropes of leading a business. It’s fantastic!
Keep an eye out for new opportunities arising across our art-K network. These are mixture of both part-time and full-time positions.
